Session Description:
PMI defines project manager competency as “A cluster of related knowledge, attitudes, skills, and other personal characteristics…that can be measured…and improved by means of training and development.”
PMOs have to be concerned about having competent project managers leading the right project at the right time. Do you know your PMO’s competency expectations and how they are measured? Many PMOs fail to address this issue head-on. Most don’t have the right kind of relationships with human resources and training units to ensure meeting current and future staffing requirements. The PMO has to look at competency development from the perspective of the individual as well as the organization. Blending the two is an ongoing challenge. In this session you will learn about the proactive approaches that our panelist PMO leaders are using.
Our panel members will describe how their PMOs identify, develop, and realize competency development value in their organizations. We’ll discuss the all-important ‘fit’ to the organization, including policy and career path considerations to ensure a sustainable cadre of project managers.
A brief overview of the PMI’s Project Manager Competency Development Framework – 2nd Edition will precede the panel discussion. Audience questions and answers will follow the panel discussion. We’ll leave time for audience questions and answers following the panel discussion.
