Community Outreach 2010 Summer Donation Drive

The Community Outreach committee is launching its summer donation drive at the June evening Chapter meeting.  We’re inviting all our chapter members to get involved and help PMICOC give back to the Central Ohio community.

Each quarter the Community Outreach committee selects a theme that directs its efforts over the next three months.  This summer’s theme is Alleviating Homelessness.  We’re all aware of rising foreclosure rates across the country, including central Ohio.  Some who lose their home can stay with relatives or friends; however not all are so fortunate.

Programs - August 2010

August 2010 Central Ohio PMI Programs Theme: – Innovation and Leadership

To be highly effective Project Managers, we need to have the ability to adapt and improvise, manage change, find creative solutions and meet novel challenges. We are all born innovators. We already have an innate ability to explore and experiment. Yet most of us have been conditioned to suppress those behaviors, both in ourselves and in how we lead others. To stay ahead of the innovation curve, it’s necessary to look beyond process and focus on our behaviors. By obtaining fresh insights to enhance our project team’s flexibility and mental agility, as well as our own ability to be creative, we can successfully handle novel challenges. This includes learning about and utilizing lean thinking and tools. Providing innovation and leadership to execute IT projects successfully is the driving reason for August’s theme: INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP. Each of the August events (Aug 12 Chapter Evening Meeting and Aug 13 PD Workshop - presented by Dennis Stauffer; and Aug 22 Morning Meeting – presented by Dr. Mustafa Shraim) will address a different aspect of the theme.

08/12/10: Clockwise® Thinking, Leading the Behaviors That Drive Innovation

08/13/10: Developing an Innovator’s Mindset – A Self-Assessment and Catalyst for Personal Impact

08/25/10: Lean Thinking

Presenters: Dennis Stauffer, Dr. Mustafa Shraim

Programs - September 2010

September 2010 Central Ohio PMI Programs    Theme:  – Leveraging Technology for Project Success

In executing IT projects successfully, Project Managers face issues involving resources, work and portfolio management.  These issues have not been fixed by "magic" technology that is out there.  Project Managers have learned to leverage the technology for project success.  Technology shifts, social media, agile, and changing communication modes are but some of the new challenges facing PM’s in a Enterprise 2.0 world.  Recent Internet applications are more collaborative and provide for a richer user experience.  This includes a social dimension, greater openness and transparency in process.   New technologies have a more open style and a "keep it simple" approach. Leveraging technology to execute projects successfully is the driving reason for September’s theme: LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY FOR PROJECT SUCCESS.  Each of September’s events (Sep 16 Chapter Evening Meeting and Sep 17 PD Workshop - presented by Curt Finch; and Sep 22 Morning Meeting – presented by Ben Blanquera, PMP) will address a different aspect of the theme.

President's Message

vp_programs.jpg PMICOC continues to “Lead the Way”.

It is fitting that “Leading the Way” is the July 2010 Central Ohio PMI Programs Theme.  Project Managers are expected to be leaders and to have the skills needed to organize people to accomplish work. Historically there has been a strong correlation between difficult economies and advancement in the acceptance of Project Management practices as companies are forced to work smarter to produce more with fewer resources. With this realization, there can be little doubt that the call has been sent. The time is now. To be prepared to answer this call, we have to focus on some key skills. Passing a test is not nearly enough. The importance of knowing how enthusiasm, leadership, and team motivation applies to project management and attaining these skills are the driving reasons for July’s theme: LEADING THE WAY.
